AMD Processor Comparison Guide

The AMD processor Comparison is an incomplete guide that expose some AMD processors, their features and prices.

AMD K6: It can be installed on socket 7 motherboard. K6 was in competition with the Intel MMX processor. With the release of the Pentium II, AMD K6 became obsolete.

AMD DURON: It can be installed on socket A motherboard. In order to compete with INTEL Celeron processor, AMD has to find a mean to manufacture a powerful processor at low price. In mid - 2000 AMD releases the Duron processor with 64 KB of L2 cache. The Duron is suitable for small business and home users.

AMD Athlon: It can be installed on socket 754. The Athlon was released in 1999 to compete with the Intel Pentium III. For the same frequency, the Athlon processor is a bit powerful than the Pentium III. Athlon is also better for multimedia and 3Dgraphic design.

In 2001 AMD releases the Athlon XP to compete with the Pentium 4. It has a bigger cache of 512 KB.
