Disconnecting external computer components
Before you start disassembling your computer components make sure your tools are ready, a paper and pen for documentation and a few stickers for identifying the parts.
First turn off the computer and the monitor.
To avoid damaging the parts by static electricity, clip the antistatic wrist strap to ground on the back of the computer.
As shown in the picture you can clip it at the end of a screw. Then put the other end of the strap around your wrist or arm.
Look at the back of your computer and identify the cables that are Connected to it.
Depending on the number of peripherals you are using there may be several cables attached at this time. The most frequent are:
Line cord
The mouse cable
Keyboard cable
Monitor cable
Disconnect the power cord from the computer. Always keep your antistatic wrist strap connected to chassis ground on the computer. If it comes loose during the disassembly process, reattach it immediately.
Disconnect the cable that connects the keyboard to the computer by pulling it straight back from the computer. Take a sticker and write down keyboard and stick it on the keyboard cable. This is a good way to identify computer pats.
Do the same thing for the mouse cable, the monitor cable and all other computer components you may have attached.
two types of keyboard connectors
There are two types of keyboard connectors: the 5 pin DIN is the bigger one and the 6 pin DIN or PS/2 type. Nowadays most computers use the PS/2 type.
The keyboard and the mouse connector looks alike, they are both 6 pin PS/2 type. Its very important to distinguish the connectors with a sticker.
