Computer Drive Parts Removing the Drives

The three common computer drive parts are: the floppy drive, the CD-Rom drive, the hard drive.

Removing drives are common task especially when you need to replace a defective one or upgrading your computer.

For example a floppy drive may become defective after a few years; Or the hard drive may crash or simply have to be replaced because the storage capacity is insufficient.

This guide will show you how to remove the computer drive parts.

The floppy drive

Two cables are connected to the floppy drive. The small one with the four color cable is the power cable and the other one is the data cable.

The other end of the power cable is connected to the power supply. Take it by the plastic connector, not the wires, and pull it away slowly from the floppy drive.

The remaining cable is the data cable or ribbon cable. One edge of the ribbon cable has a color stripe, more often red or blue. The color stripe identifies the connector that contain pin 1 and help you align it.

You can easily confuse the floppy ribbon cable with the hard drive or CD-Rom ribbon cable. Before removing this cable, put a sticker on it and name it floppy. Draw an arrow pointing to the stripe and write inside under the arrow. This will remind you that this cable connects to the floppy and the stripe goes toward the inside of the drive. Remember to write everything you need in your documentation paper.

Take the edge of the ribbon cable connector that connects to the floppy and gently pull it away from the drive. Then take the other edge that connects to the motherboard and pull it out. Remember do not pull on the cable. Grasp and pull the connector instead.

Finally unscrew the screws on the side of the floppy that secure it to its support. Then push the drive to the front of the computer and put it aside along with the screws.

The Hard drive

The hard drive is the main data storage. Two cables are connected: the power cable and the date cable.

The power cable is a little bigger than the one of the floppy. Pulling it out required a little more strength. But remember always grasp the connector of the computer drive parts, not the cables

Find the screws that secure the hard drive and unscrew them. Pull out the hard drive and place it in the antistatic bag.

The CD-Rom Drive

The CD-Rom has a power cable and data cable much like those on the hard drive. If you have a sound card installed in one of the computer slots you will notice an audio cable that connects the CD-Rom to the sound card. Before pulling out the audio cable, Take a sticker and name the audio cable.

Find the screws that secure the CD-Rom, unscrew them and push the CD-Rom to the front and take it away from the computer. Inside your computer you may have other computer drive parts such as a CD-Writer. refer to the CD-Rom section to remove it. cheap computer drive parts here
