Computer Monitor Tips

The computer monitor or screen is an output peripheral. If you can read those lines it’s because of the monitor. The monitor receives what it must post by the graphic card.

One distinguishes usually two families of screens: Cathode ray tubes (noted CRT) and the Flat screens most popular in laptop computer.

The most important characteristics of a monitor are: the definition, the dot pitch, the resolution, the vertical refresh frequency. If you already know these characteristics, Click Here to Search for monitors

Things to consider when purchasing a compuer monitor

The definition: it is the number of points (pixel) which the screen can post, this number of points generally lies between 640x480 (640 points in length, 480 points in width) and 1600x1200, but higher definition are technically possible.

It is calculated by measuring the diagonal of the screen and is expressed in inches. It is necessary not to confuse the definition of the screen and its size. Indeed a screen of a given size can post various definitions, however in a general way big size computer monitor have a better definition.

The dot pitch: to evaluate the computer monitor quality, the dot pitch is very important; it’s a distance measured in millimeters. The smaller the distance is, more precise will be the image. Thus a dot pitch lower or equal to 0,25 mm will have a good comfort of use, while the screens having dot pitch equal to or higher than 0,28 mm will be to proscribe.

The resolution: It determines the number of pixels per unit of area (pixels) (DPI: Dots per Inch). A resolution of 300 dpi means 300 columns and 300 lines of pixels on square inch what would thus give 90000 pixels on a square inch.

The vertical refresh frequency: represents the number of images which are posted per second, it is expressed in Hertz. Higher this value is, better is the visual comfort (one does not see the image twinkle). It is necessary that it is higher than 67 Hz (lower limit from which the eye sees truly the image "flickering").
