Motherboards upgrade

Motherboards upgrade is the process of installing a new motherboard in the computer. Some computer manufacturers like (Compaq, Dell, IBM…) have proprietary motherboards that can only be replaced with identical boards.

Things to consider before upgrade

• The size of the motherboard is very important. You must verify that the motherboard will fit inside the case. Also check the alignment of the mounting holes

• Do the front panel connectors (power switch, HDD activity...) work with the new motherboard?

• Compare the built in ports ( COM and LPT)

• Is the motherboard equipped with built in video and sound card or will you have to buy them separately.

• How many expansion cards, number of slots

• Make sure the power connector on the motherboard is on the same side as the power supply

• Will the memory RAM compatible with the new motherboard?

• Will the motherboard compatible with the processor? Or will you have to purchase a new processor?

Because all the computer parts and devices are some how connected to the motherboard, the task of installing a new motherboard required to completely disassemble and reassemble the computer. Learn how to have your motherboards upgrade at the computer repair guide
