Disassemble & Reassemble

Repair computers and upgrading are the two main reasons people need to open a computer.

For this purpose the first step when repairing a computer is knowing how to take one a part and put it back together.

For this task all you need is a toolkit and a antistatic wrist strap.

Taking the computer a part is the easiest step, putting it back together and making it work the same as it was before required a little bit of disciplin and documentation.

Disassembling steps

Step1: Documentation and preparation

Step2: Disconnecting external peripherals

Step3: Removing the cover and Identifying the parts

Step4: removing the video card and other cards

Step5: removing the drives

Step6: removing power supply computers

Step7: removing computers memories

Step8: removing the mother board

Once you have successfully done all the steps and taking a part your computer it’s time to put the parts back together and make your PC worked as it was. Follow this guide to build PC from scratch and repair computers

Why Documentation is important?

Let me share with you my experience. As a handy man, one day I open my computer and start putting the parts a side without knowing anything about what I was doing. I successfully disassemble the computer but I could not get it back to work as it was.

I had to get help from a technician friend who help me reassemble correctly. One of the thing he taught me and I have learned is documentation is very important in the technical field

documentation to collect

• Motherboard documentation
• List of the installed expansion cards
• The operating system that was running in your PC
• Current configuration of the computer( model of the drives…..)

List of the tools needed to repair computers

• Screwdrivers: one large and one small flathead and a set of Philips head (sometimes called a cross)
• Tweezers: convenient for picking up lost parts
• Needle-nose pliers: think of them as an extension of your finger
• Compressed air: to remove dust
• flashlight: for seeing in dark places
• curved hemostats: for picking up and holding small parts
• the antistatic wrist strap: use to prevent electro static discharge (ESD) Find all the tools you need here

Once you have disassembled and reassemble your computer 2 or 3 times successfully, you are on your way to be a good computer technician and will be able to upgrade and repair computers

Remember never force a part, never screw to tight.
