Removing the video card and other cards

The video card functions as an interface between the motherboard and the monitor.

Some motherboards already have parts integrated into them. (They are called built-in components.) Most frequent built-in components are: video cards and sound cards.

Built in video cards do not offer great resolution, however they will suit you well for every day task like browsing the internet etc… but for gaming, graphic and web design you will definitely need a better one.

As repairing or upgrading computers you will be removing old interface cards and putting in new ones. You have to be comfortable doing this.

How to proceed

Unscrew the retaining screw holding the card in place. Gently lift one end of the card Then take the other end and lift it until the card is free from its slot. Because all electronics components are susceptible to electrostatic discharge you should place the card in the antistatic bag.

Continue the same way to remove all the expansion cards you may have in your computer. Your video card is here
